Cheapest but dirty transport to Greece over Skopje, FYRO Macedonia. The wagons are property of FYROM and in my surprise in a bit worse condition than Belgrade – Bar train. This train is very small, one wagon for sleeping with 9×6 beds, two wagons for sitting and a wagon for car transport, so it will pass the border fast, but still it will be late to it’s final destination.

This train will be around 2 hours late to it’s final destination, regardless the direction.

In both directions I traveled several people had problems with the train getting late resulting in them missing the other transport leading from the trains destination, so beware!

On this train you are able to buy coffee, water or juice from the wagon manager, because there is no dining wagon.

If there are any problems on the railway, if it is blocked in any way, Greek TrainOSE organizes a free of charge bus transport to the FYROM border, Gevgelija train station.

The Bus is located outside of the train station, you pass the taxi parking and on the left. Here is the map so you don’t get confused: https://www.google.rs/maps/dir//40.6439797,22.9297985/@40.6436891,22.9296357,229m/data=!3m1!1e3

Prices

This is definitely the cheapest way to get to Greece from Belgrade. Price is 33.8€ one way and 54.1€ return, with 8€ euros for a bed in one direction. I prefer trains with beds for long travels so I would choose to travel 16 hours with a train and sleep than 12 hours with the bus. By the way bus tickets are around 40€ one way and 80€ return ticket, but the return ticket can be found some where for 60€. So the price difference is not too drastic. Also if you know your travel dates long in advance the best way is to go by a plane, where the return ticket can get as low as 80€. Check both AirSerbia and Olympic to find the lowest fare.

Price of the ticket for a child 4 – 12 years old is half the adult price, children less then 4 rides for free.

For the groups of 6 and more adults 20% discount, two children 4 – 12 count as one adult.
